Day 13 and 14: Eating less

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

So I don't know quite what's going on, but I am losing my appetite. This morning I didn't even want any breakfast, so I ate nothing until 12 noon, when I finally made a smoothie. Then later on I had some nuts, for lunch I had a few cups watermelon juice and for dinner I am eating a yummy zucchini squash soup (recipe below) and maybe some strawberries. Yesterday was much the same. Hmmmm. I am wondering if I am not eating enough, and therefore losing my appetite? I don't feel hungry, but then there are times that I know I need to eat because my body starts to feel lethargic. Common wisdom has it that one should eat BEFORE one gets lethargic, but I just don't seem to know when that point is. I just don't seem to WANT to eat anything, or crave anything in particular. In the beginning of this journey, I SO craved raspberries, strawberries and other fruits. So I sit here and think: "what do I want to eat?" and I don't want anything at all. I can't decide if I am "bored' by my options (as if!!!) or what. I do think a part of me is craving cooked foods; I made my kids a whole wheat couscous, chickpea and carrot dish tonight for dinner and MAN, it looked good. Anyone have any insight as to what might be going on with me?

Spicy Zucchini Squash Soup
1 zucchini
1 yellow squash
1 garlic clove, crushed
cayenne pepper to taste
celtic sea salt
pepper
1/2 an avocado
1/4 cup walnuts
miso if desired, about 1/2 tablespoon

Mix it all up in a Blendtec. Really yummy!!!

hmm, not sure. I mean I have had the same thing happen to me. Some might say to fast until you feel like eating again. the problem with me is a crave stuff but not raw stuff. sometimes, like today, i am just not as much in the mood for raw foods.

maybe your body is telling you to fast or something. sorry wish I could be more helpful

If you're not getting enough sleep, that affects appetite...so does the heat! Mine flutuates daily, & yes, some days I have no appetite at all...sometimes, you need to just take a bite of something & it'll kick in, & yes, sometimes you need to just follow your body's lead & fast...
...make sure you're drinking enough (but not too much!) water, & you also mught need to stop eating earlier in the evening...(if you go to sleep with undigested food in your tummy it kinda sits there all night while your digestive system rests, & then in the morning, you still feel full...& the viscious cycle continues, cuz then you're not hungry till later, & when it finally kicks in, end up eating too late in the day, as your body tries to get sufficient calories...
...hope you find the solution soon!
You could put yourself on a bit of an eating schedule to re-train your tummy & brain...like, eat something, anything, within an hour of getting up every day, no matter what, even if it's really light...then eat something every 2-4 hours thru the day (depending on how small or big your last meal or snack was)...

Hey Hillary, it has been great catching up with your journey..now that I found it!!

I am not raw, but will give my 2 cents LOL! My lifestyle is all whole food straight from animal, the ground and tree! everything natural!

From the outside looking in I would say you have a diet more heavy in fruit than vegetables, so maybe amp up that side some more! Do you like tomatoes? Also eating is a mental game too..so don't give in to your thoughts of why you are tired or what is causing what...just go about your eating and don't over think it!! And last your body is going to be on a serious mend from your years of taking your prescriptions! I would say your body and appetite is actually bouncing back EXTREMELY well since going off your meds!! That is a healing process and your body needs to repair. I wouldn't expect any normal sleep patterns and moods for quite awhile!! You need to give the body time to heal and begin fresh with it's newfound resources! You go girl!
